As you will already know, my friend BożenA and I run challenges between each other as we are able, taking turns to choose the topics. This time it was BożenA that got to choose the topic and she chose a watercolor technique. The method is to smoosh metallic watercolor onto black cardstock and then use the result for either die cutting or a background. I opted to go with the die cutting of the metallic covered cardstock.
I cut my black cardstock into smaller pieces and did two shades of the metallic pink which then resulted in this variegated mauve paper. Using a metallic green I created one lighter green smoosh and one darker green by adding some dark green regular watercolor paint before pulling the cardstock piece through it. The final piece got gold watercolor on it.
Once the cardstock was dry, I die cut the pieces of the current Altenew Craft-a-Flower Poppy die from the two shades of mauve that I had created with the pink paints. I cut the stem and the leaves from the lighter green and the leaf details from the dark green and finally the flower centers from the gold. I assembled the three flowers and the leaves.
I created a cardbase out of white cardstock and “embossed” some diagonal lines on the front with my scoring board. I also added a strip of black and white striped paper to the right side of the card.
I then arranged the three poppies on the front of the card so that the left one hangs off the edge of the card a bit. The back two are glued down flat and the top of is added with foam tape. The flower stems received a small purple bow on them.
I completed the card with a sentiment strip from a new die set that I purchased. I love that this die gives me both a usable negative and the little letters and I can use either.
Here is a picture of the card in the bright sunlight. The colors are not very accurate here, but you can see the beautiful shine that the metallic watercolors leave on the black cardstock, despite pictures never doing justice to this technique.
